Home Planning for Your Later Years

Studies indicate that more than 80% of older Americans would prefer to remain in their homes. However, many homes are not well suited for people with the physical limitations associated with aging.
Bill Wasch is author of the book "Home Planning for Your Later Years." He takes us on a tour of the Middletown House which he and his daughter, architect Christina Wasch, designed together. The Middletown House is a completely accessible house with a care-giver apartment on the second floor. Later, contractor Bruce Lawler explains how an existing home can be made more suitable for seniors.

I think there's a reluctance with seniors to do a lot of work to their home because they're worried about resale value. We have to train ourselves to think 'Safety First.' The home is there for the person who's living in it.
