Network of Farmers' Markets Blanket City with Chard, Rhubarb
Fresh Fruit and Veg Can Be Had Five Days a Week All Around the Capitol
Buying local can seem so difficult and rarefied that when you finally buy a tomato from a nearby farm, you feel like framing it rather than eating it. This summer, however, markets are open five days a week in locations all around Hartford. And with all farmers' markets accepting WIC checks and a number of them accepting EBT, the city is moving toward better nutrition for all residents. And there's more on those farm tables than produce, there's meat, cheese, honey, soaps, baskets, pizza from a mobile hearth and even story time (on Tuesdays at the West End Market). So head out and revel in the fruits of summer.
