In this on going series about the Portland Brownstone Quarries, located in Portland CT, meet Mike Meehan, president and owner of Portland Brownstone Quarries Inc. A resident of Cheshire, CT he was in the coal mining business most of his career. In 1994 he started Portland Brownstone Quarries Inc. with Gallaudet University School for the deaf in Washington, DC as his first customer.
Being the last remaining Brownstone cutters in the area Mike Meehan tells us in this short video the basics of how he cuts large blocks of brownstone out of the natural ledges then cuts it into various thickness and eventually into slabs that will be used for building renovation work around the country.
