Seniors Walking
Skip Farris (r) and friend Ency Richardson on Talcott Mountain
Connecticut native Skip Farris walks . . . . . and walks and walks . . . . in her home state and throughout the world. Travel has always been her priority.
Skip has hiked the Pyrenees in France and Spain, the Dolomites in the Alps, as well as Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Known to all the children in her neighborhood as “Granny Skip,” Farris challenges the usual stereotypes of what being 80-years-old is all about.

It doesn't surprise (the grandchildren) that I mow the lawn and I shovel the drive and then I go hiking, because that's what granny's do, I guess."

Skip Farris, CT hiker, world traveller
This video, published July 26, 2010 mentions Skip as 80, but she is now 85. I have known Skip since 1998. I lived in her neighborhood until May, 2010, when we moved out of state. Skip has an open house every Friday for the neighborhood ladies to drop by for informal tea and homemade muffins. The focus is on conversation around her kitchen table. Topics are wide ranging. People come and go. Skip is a marvel - an inspiration to all who know her well. The key is her abiding curiosity. Thank you for featuring a very great lady!
