Vampires in New England Mercy B. Part 2

In New England, in the 18th and 19th centuries, the folklore of vampires was alive and well. In southern New England particularly, where the scourge of tuberculosis was prevalent, entire families and whole communities were dying off. Men, women and even young children fell victim to this unseen airborne disease. What to blame for such an inexplicable epidemic? It had to be vampirism.

The way to ward off such evil?  Exhume the bodies of the recently deceased and burn their hearts .Or open the grave and rearrange the bones. And of course nothing would be more effective than making sure the dead stayed that way, than to drive a stake though their heart.

All of these scenarios are said to have taken place right here in southern New England. These are some of the better known stories. Originally produced by CPTV in 1996 here are the stories of Vampires in New England .

This is part two of the story of Mercy brown, our neighbor to the East.
