DeLauro Sees "Great Achievement" in bin Laden's Death

U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro was in her kitchen Sunday night when she got the word that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden had been killed by U.S. forces. She cried, remembering the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and all the families that have sacrificed since then.
“Today is really a day of justice,” DeLauro, a New Haven Democrat, told an audience of senior citizens Monday morning at Tower One/Tower East. She was there to talk about Medicare, but opened her remarks with a few words about the bin Laden news, which had the room abuzz.
The strike on bin Laden is “a great achievement for the president, a great achievement for our troops,” DeLauro said, noting that she was in Afghanistan a few weeks ago. This mission is another reminder of the U.S. military’s terrific work, she said.
“We should honor and pray for them every single say,” DeLauro said.
Asked whether she is worried about retaliation, DeLauro said there is reason to be concerned, but also to have confidence in security measures (click on the arrow to watch the exchange).
“I think terrorism is a difficult issue,” she said, adding that bin Laden’s death should be “very helpful” in the larger effort to protect the U.S. and stomp out al-Qaida.
