In New Haven, a police crackdown brings clashes with college students and charges of brutality
Yale administrators investigate police tactics
VIDEO (Warning -- Contains expletives): This murky footage seems to show club-goers reacting to the sight of a man lying on the floor. A policeman standing over him shouts, repeatedly, "Anybody else?"
(Updated) Yale administrators are guiding students to file complaints and looking into rules for when citizens can photograph cops on the streets, as the city’s aggressive new “Operation Nightlife” in the downtown bar district led to charges of police brutality for the second time in a week.
The latest incident occurred early Saturday morning.
Police said they found 226 people crowding a section of the Crown street club Alchemy called Elevate. The legal occupancy is only 126, they said. They also found several fights taking place right outside the club. The SWAT team was called in.
The occasion was a private party (called “The Morse-Stiles Screw”) held by two of Yale’s residential colleges.
