The Holla Colla! Toward a Restoration of the Dickey

Our friend Mike Pesca opines: "The dickey, given its inherent utility would surely be more popular if not for its name. I'd rebrand it the 'Neck Bro' - your suggestion?"

I agree that dickey was a poor name choice in days now bygone. but I think Pesca might be (and this is rare) wrong to suppose it is not the perfect name for the whole "look at this f-----ng hipster" moment in which we live. "Our dickeys come in two styles," says this go-to dickey site. When you get right down to it, what is more fun to say than "dickey?" All right then.

But do we all mean the same thing when we say "dickey?" I think Pesca and I mean a turtleneck that extends just a little ways down the torso and stops. Like this photo from the aforementioned dickey site. (Truth to tell, I have seen shorter dickeys than this.)

But according to this, many small raiments have been pleased to call themselves dickeys.

We need events. Heavily tweeted "Dickey Pub Crawls" in hipster enclaves.

An update from Pesca: "Strangely, an internet search reveals that 90% of dickies are turtle necks , whereas I am more drawn to the point collar dickey. Maybe the prevalence of turtleneck dickies are what’s holding them back. Everyone has terrible sense memory associations with turtlenecks."
