Lieberman Bill Would Allow Government Takeover of 'Net

Image

As Egypt shut down its internet, the action made others wonder whether something like that could happen here.

Maybe not exactly that and maybe not right now, but a bill introduced by U.S. Joseph Lieberman would, if passed, give the U.S.government the right to take over the Internet under certain circumstances and the revised, current version of the bill would exempt that process from judicial review.

Really, what could go wrong?

Lieberman denied that he bill, at least in its earliest version, contained a kill switch.
