Average Personal Income In CT Unchanged In Q3
Indicative that consumers fail to see real gains from the economic recovery.
Average personal income in Connecticut was unchanged in the third quarter, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It’s yet more evidence that consumers are failing to see real gains from the economic recovery. WNPR’s Harriet Jones reports.
The census bureau looks at all sources of income including wages, rents and dividends — on average personal income in Connecticut stayed flat with the second quarter. It was the only state in New England to show zero growth, and it lagged the national average rise of 0.7%. Economist Don Klepper Smith of Datacore Partners in New Haven says the lack of a boost in incomes is translating into poor consumer confidence.
The figures in Connecticut reflected lower employer contributions to health insurance and pension benefits, as well as tougher times for small business owners.
