Bridgeport To Conduct National Search For Next School Superintendent
City struggles with low test scores and budget deficits.
Bridgeport officials will conduct a national search for the city’s next school superintendent. A state-appointed Board of Education has fired Bridgeport’s current superintendent as part of its takeover of the troubled school system.
Bridgeport’s state-appointed board of ed will part ways with Superintendent John Ramos at the end of December. An interim superintendent will come in to serve while education officials conduct a national search for the city’s next school leader.
Margaret Hiller, executive director of the non-profit Bridgeport Public Education Fund, says people liked working with Dr. Ramos during his six-years as superintendent, but Ramos had difficulty negotiating Bridgeport’s politically charged environment. "I think he had never worked in a district that was this large or..I’m going to use the word..dysfunctional..before. And I think he had a very hard time dealing with the Board of Education that was not supportive of what he wanted to do."
Bridgeport’s schools have struggled for years with low test scores and large budget deficits. The district has been unable to pass a balanced operating budget for the 2011-12 school year.

I have a masters degree in
I have a masters degree in nursing and I have to tell you that you can find much more easier a job then if you don't have a higher education degree. The educational system is helping those who want to learn but the question is : how many of those who get accepted to a college really want to learn?
college
I have to agree with what Jloft said here. We need more kids who go to college prepared and who actually graduate. We do need more people that have a homeland security masters degree. I hope that the educational system will change soon enough so it can make a difference.
next superintendent
I have to say that the current situation of the educational system is quite unique and should be worrying a lot of people. Many have said that the educational system has not been "updated" to prepare kids for today's society. Who ever will be chosen as superintendent, he or she will have a tough job. I suggest to accept such an appointment only if you are prepared for that. Lots of kids today dream to obtain criminal justice degrees but the system does not prepare you enough for college. Changes need to be done so we have more kids who go to college and actually graduate.
