Colin McEnroe Show: All Tech (Problems) Considered
Tech experts answer your questions and David Pogue discusses gadgets.
I have a problem.
The computer that was the home base for my iTunes has died, so the only place my iTunes exist is on my iPod.
If you tell me I should have backed up my iTunes, I will hit you. I googled this whole problem and learned that solutions do exist. I tried one of them and was too stupid to be able to make it work.
That's one of the problems with modern tech problems. Sometimes there are also problems with the solutions. To put it another way, if you were too stupid to avoid the problem in the first place, you may be too stupid to implement the solution.
Notwithstanding all of the preceding, we are bringing in specialists to solve your tech problems today. And after we steer you down a frozen river of viruses and hacked passwords, we'll cheer you up with some cool gift gadget ideas.

iTunes recovery
THere are a few free utilities that you can download that let you access your iPod without iTunes. Also: Apple allows you to use up to 3 (or 5?) different computers to access your tunes from. The trick is not letting iTunes itself overwrite your tunes. Anyway, download one of these utilities (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/29716/heres-five-alternatives-to-itunes-1...) and THEN you can backup your tunes. If you are a Mac user, I recommend you get a gizmo called a Time Capsule, which is a giant hard drive combined with a wireless router. Reasonably priced, and it automatically backs up all of your files painlessly, automatically. Available from Apple.
