Colin McEnroe Show: Bill Griffith Talks Comedy, Art & 'Zippy The Pinhead'

True story ... last week, the Connecticut legislature's Environment Committee's public hearing agenda included, on the same day, An Act Permitting the Possession of Reindeer Year Round and An Act Concerning the Hunting of Deer with a Pistol.

This is why I don't celebrate April Fool's Day. Life is like this every day. Break that story apart into separate scenes, and your mind is flooded with images of a man plugging a deer with a Saturday night special or a young couple walking their reindeer on a leash.

And that's why I already know the answer to the question everybody asks Bill Griffith: Where do you get your ideas? He probably doesn't have to sit there holding his head and feverishly hoping something will jump out. The anomalies and cartoon dissonances of Zippy the Pinhead are really just average days along the byways of America.

Bill Griffith is back with us today and we'll have more questions for America's foremost pop surrealist.

Zippy

Great show. I've been a Zippy acolyte since 1977, when I acquired Zippy Stories, which I treasure. I don't collect comics, but love Zippy!

EMAIL FROM REMY:

Neils in Wallingford.
The only donut I will eat.

EMAIL FROM GEORGE:

Brooklyn Baking Company.
Brooklyn section of Waterbury ,ct
Hands down the best on the state, ask for Art

EMAIL FROM HENRY:

Flanders Bakery in East Lyme has great stuff, topped by their authentic muzzie. Muzzie = raised glazed cruller with raisins. Their pastries are so good that many styles sell out before 1:00.

Never had their glazed doughnuts as the muzzie is too good to skip.

EMAIL FROM JOYCE:

Your show today was one of the funniest thus far! I loved that he made you laugh out loud, he did the same to me, but I was driving, I can only imagine what people were thinking if they happened to look my way!
