Colin McEnroe Show: Celebrating Three Famous 'Harriets'

Today we're doing an all-Harriet show, featuring Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman and Harriet the Spy.
We love the idea, and we plan to have some fun with it, but we're also going to tread on some serious territory. It's impossible to talk about Tubman and Stowe without talking about human slavery in all its stomach-turning aspects.
The Stowe Center continues Stowe's work as an abolitionist by calling attention to modern human trafficking. This week, they have a salon style conversation planned about Half the Sky, by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. That book deals with human trafficking and sexual slavery, but the Stowe Center couldn't have known that the issue would explode much closer to home, with an article published on Vanity Faire's site today. It's titled "Sex Trafficking of Americans: The Girls Next Door," and it's set mostly in the Hartford area.
