Colin McEnroe Show: The Culture Dogs
What summer movies are you excited about?
I think we imprint -- like baby ducks -- on certain movies.
We see them at a certain moment in our lives -- usually somewhere in our youth -- when we're ready to love something a certain way.
So I was at one of those ages when I saw Richard Lester's version of the Three Musketeers. This is the one with, most significantly, Oliver Reed as Athos. And Charlton Heston as Cardinal Richelieu. And Christopher Lee and Michael York and Fay Dunaway as the Countess deWinter. And Raquel Welch in possibly the only really good performance she's ever given.
I could recite about ten more cast members without having to look at IMDB. The weird thing though, is that I haven't really watched it all that many times because there were problems with the release of the movie and its sequel to VHS and then DVD.
This summer, both movies are out on Blue Ray. I think I'm going to enjoy that more than anything in the theaters.
