Colin McEnroe Show: Do Supreme Court Judges Need A Code Of Ethics?
A recent round of questions about conflicts of interest in the U.S. Supreme Court may place all three branches of government on a collision course.
Congressmen Chris Murphy is drafting a bill that would extend the ethics standards for lower court federal judges to the currently standardless Supreme Court.
The civic reform group Common Cause is asking the Justice Department to investigate the activities of Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas with an eye to whether their participation in political retreats funded by two wealthy conservative activists may have constituted a conflict of interest in the Citizens United case.
If the Justice Department sought to vacate that decision based on the conflict, wouldn't that go to the Supreme Court? And could the same thing be said for questions about the constitutionality of Murphy's proposed laws?
