Colin McEnroe Show: The Evolution Of Connecticut Libraries

We could do ten shows in libraries in a row and not bore you. For instance consider the brand new report by the American Library Association, "Privacy and Freedom in the 21st Century Library." As the introduction states: "As libraries increasingly move beyond provision of print material and into their expanding roles as providers of digital resources and services, intellectual freedom concerns have been magnified as they apply to a range of complex new issues."

The modern librarian is info-hipper than you are. Sarah Houghton from San Jose, one of the rock stars of the library world, has accounts with Google Talk, Google Voice, AIM, Facebook, Meebo, Twitter, MSN, Four Square, Skype, Pownce, Pandora, LiveJournal, Myspace, Lowalla, FriendFeed and LastFM.

So we decided to pick one lovely library in smallish Connecticut town and see what it does all day.

Libraries

The libraries in most CT Towns & cities are pretty much ahead of the times racing to keep up with technology and the ever changing interests of the public. They work very hard to remain relavent to all generational groups, 2 & 3 yr olds with story times, 4 & 5 yr olds with beginning readers, elementray and middle school children, young adults, adults and seniors. There isn't a better organization that reaches out to all of our citizens than a Library.
