Colin McEnroe Show: Lowell Weicker - Still 'Nobody's Man But Yours'
Late in 2002, my relationship with Lowell P. Weicker changed, probably forever. I was on a commercial talk station, and I was outspoken in my opposition to our ramping up for war in Iraq.
The station's listenership tilted hard in the other direction, and my show had settled in days and weeks of callers who wanted to spar with me and call me a fool and an appeaser and a traitor and even worse. I have a pretty thick hide, but after a while, you just start to get worn down by all this.
One day, in my headphones, I heard the producer telling me that Weicker was on the line. He didn't need to go on the air. He wanted to talk to me in private during the next available break. He'd wait on hold.
When we spoke, Weicker told me, "You're right. Don't lose your nerve. Don't let anyone beat you down on this. You stick to your guns and you'll be fine."

I have no problem with Linda [McMahon] - my problem is her party ... it's the party of no.
