Colin McEnroe Show: Political Ads Give Us All Headaches
We run truth checks on some of the noisest political ads in 2010.
For political commercials in Connecticut, 2010 is the perfect storm year. It's the combination of two very wealthy candidates and lots of other campaigns, right down to the state rep level, financed by public funds. Add to that the fact that there aren't many obvious blow-outs on the board, so everybody has an incentive to spend every last dime on advertising.
It's a little numbing, isn't it? The way these things run and run and run. Today's new entry is a Linda McMahon ad attempting to link her opponent Richard Blumenthal to the Countrywide Mortgage scandal. The ad suggests that Blumenthal cut a favorable deal for Countrywide. As far as I can tell upon short review, the case they're citing makes the opposite point. Two trusts related to Countrywide sued for relief on a settlement they thought was too tough on them.
But facts and commercials are apples and oranges.
