Colin McEnroe Show: Student Tinkerers Will Take Over The Planet

There are two kinds of young people in this world. The kind who can imagine themselves designing and building a hovercraft, a hyper-high-mileage car, a moon buggy and/or a zero gravity experiment.

And the kind who can imagine themselves writing an essay about the first kind. I am totally in that latter category.

The first kind, of course, are responsible for human progress, and in this show we talk to a whole lot of them -- including the hyper-mileage-car team and the zero-gravity people.

Our producer Patrick Skahill -- the first kind of person-- also provides an essay about his top secret hovercraft work.

Our final segment is about a site called Instructables, in which tinkerers of all ages share their ideas. I may not be able to do any of that stuff, but I can understand the impulse to modify your toaster so that it burns the images of video game characters into bread.

I am a fan of the original theme song. The song is what first drew me to listen to your show.

Now I'm a bigger fan of the show than of the song, but I wouldn't want to lose that song.

Why do I like the song so much? Because the tune and words are zany but true -- like life.

Mostly, though, I want to be reminded in a humorous way that today today today today is the first day of the rest of my life.
