CT Casinos Report Slot Earnings Increase
neither casino is overplaying the significance of the event
For the first time in more than two years, both Connecticut’s casinos have reported a year-over-year increase in slots revenue in the same month. However, as WNPR’s Harriet Jones reports, neither is overplaying the significance of the event.
It’s been a very tough couple of years for Connecticut’s casinos, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, with steadily falling revenues. But in July, Mohegan Sun posted a 1.8% increase in its slots win, while Foxwoods was up 1.3% over July, 2009.
The last time both facilities reported an uptick at the same time was in May 2008. But management at the casinos is cautious about what the numbers might mean for the future, pointing out that July had a favorable calendar, with five Saturdays in the month. They also have both heavily increased their promotional offers to gamblers to increase revenue. Executives say while the boost in slots win is welcome, it is modest, and they want to see several consecutive months of growth before they’ll believe the industry is out of the woods.
