Faith Middleton Show: My River Chronicles
In 2001, journalist Jessica DuLong ditched her dot-com desk job for the diesel engines of a rusty antique fireboat, the John J. Harvey, and the storied waters of the Hudson. My River Chronicles: Rediscovering America on the Hudson tells the story of this mechanic's daughter and Stanford graduate who had left her blue-collar upbringing behind until the fireboat drew her back, offering a chance to become an engineer and a taste of home she hadn't realized she was missing.

Her father WAS a mechanic?
When i was working with "Pete" Dulong and his son Zac installing a VW Diesel engine in my camper, i read the family copy of "My River Chronicles." i knew about it from hearing Jessica interviewed on WAMC public radio Albany.
So, Faith, what is this about Jessica's dad "was" a mechanic? as far as i can tell he IS a mechanic and one of the best i have ever had the privilage of spinning wrenches with. i called him yesterday and it sure sounded like he is still a mechanic.
The first time i was at their place, Pete and Gretchen (Jessica's Mom) told me their Daughter just had a book published about working on a historic fireboat and i reponded "Did she talk about her view of the Hudson being from two feet below the waterline?" They got a kick out of that. Great Book. If Jessica does an event anywhere i can get to i'll be there.
