Financial Regulation Reform Bill Amendments Under Debate

There’s speculation over whether President Obama might veto a financial regulation reform bill that allowed new government oversight of the Federal Reserve. As WNPR’s Harriet Jones reports, there are attempts to insert the clause into the bill being debated in the Senate.

Several controversial amendments to the bill are under debate as the financial regulation reform bill moves forward in the Senate. Independent senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont has brought forward a clause that would allow the Government Accountability Office to audit certain operations of the Fed. The author of the bill, Chris Dodd, speaking on WNPR’s Where We Live, said he’s fundamentally opposed to the idea.

Senators are also considering an amendment that would change the bill’s consumer protection measures – Democrats have derided that Republican initiative as worse than the status quo.

For WNPR, I'm Harriet Jones.
