Foley Says Bysiewicz Acted Improperly

Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley says it was improper for Democratic Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz to release unofficial election results. WNPR's Jeff Cohen reports.

Repeatedly stressing that her results were unofficial, Bysiewicz said that her numbers showed Malloy winning by 3,103 votes.  On WNPR's Colin McEnroe show, Foley said Bysiewicz should have kept the numbers to herself.

Foley: Is this Susan Bysiewicz on the line?

Bysiewicz: Yes. Hey, Tom.

McEnroe: That is Susan Bysiewicz. I'm glad I could arrange this conversation.

Foley:  I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were on the line, well I think it's pretty extraordinary that you would announce a winner...

Bysiewicz:  We just said unofficial...

Foley: You're announcing a winner and you don't even have the results.

Bysiewicz: No, we have the unofficial results. We were very clear about that.

Foley:  How do you announce a winner with an unofficial result?

Bysiewicz: We just said they're unofficial.

Foley: (laughs) You're the secretary of the state of Connecticut.  You're an elected official.  And you're announcing a result when you have only unofficial returns?

Bysiewicz then said that she doesn't yet have all of the election results, and that she hopes to have them from all of the state's municipalities by 8 p.m. tonight.

That didn't please Foley.

Foley: So you don't have a result because you don't know what the vote count is. And that's why we want to see your town-by-town results.

Bysiewicz: We are happy to show you. Our election attorney Ted Bromley and our deputy Leslie Mara have them.

Foley: Well, how soon can we have these?

Bysiewicz: Right away.  Right away.

Foley: Fine, well, please send them over and we'll reconcile our result with yours, but we have a very different result.  And I think for you to be calling an unofficial result of an election is improper...

Bysiewicz:  We're just sharing information that we have an we're happy to share it with you...

The Colin McEnroe Show will re-air tonight at 7 p.m.

There is a very simple

There is a very simple solution to this. Next Tuesday, open up the polls in every single CT town EXCEPT Bridgeport for 2 hours, and let the GOP robocall all its registered lists and THEN count the results. If they won't do that then call a new election. If neither, then this election is improper and must be tossed out.

More BS from Bysiewicz

First off, the Secretary of the State is not in a position to be releasing election results that are not official.

Secondly, the fact that the decision was made to keep the polls in Bridgeport open until 10:00PM 2 hours after they were scheduled to close and then robo calling all voters of a heavily democratic district to inform them of how important it is for them to come out and vote is the reason this will most likely turn into a Franken fiasco.

Something Rotten

Susan Bysiewicz is playing politics pure and simple. She should be far more discrete. It looks like she's trying to set up her next job with Malloy's administration.

Much Ado About Nothing

I'm pretty sure what the Secretary of the State meant was that her office had received word of all the vote totals from the precincts, but did not have the official documentation yet.

Much ado about nothing, but I'm sure Mr. Foley will find another excuse to recreate the Minnesota/Senator Franken scenario in court with the same end result.

Just one more reason why I'd never vote for the man.
