Malloy Is The Anti-Christie

Wednesday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told MSNBC that he’ll be waiting at the border for Connecticut’s jobs after Governor Dannel Malloy’s proposed tax hike drives business out of Connecticut. As WNPR’s Jason Cunningham reports, Malloy responded to his claims again today (Thursday).

Malloy drew a line between him and Christie by wanting to slightly raise taxes to help balance his state’s budget.

“I suppose I’m the anti-Christie.”

“Ah, their governor has to be their governor, ah, I have to be the governor here, ah, let me assure you when everything is said and done our taxes will be substantially lower than New Jersey.”

After he presided over his first State Bond Commission Meeting, Malloy also fielded questions about taxes, transportation, and about the process of turning a proposed budget into a reality. When asked if he felt that lawmakers would make significant changes to the budget, Malloy said that he wasn’t psychic.

“Ah, you know, I left my crystal ball at home today. I, I, I, this is, you know there’s a legislative process, I want to be respectful of that process. Having said that I hope we get everybody pulling in the same direction, that’s what I’m trying to do.”

Malloy also said that new Metro-North trains were due to come in soon.

“We, ah, may take, ah, delivery of the first couple of trains. Remember, these are two links, six trains, ah, tis, ssss, six of these make a train. Um, we’re led to believe that, ah, if all things, ah, proceed as they are currently proceeding that, that it, it could be much, much quicker.”

Malloy is due to field many more questions about state spending, taxes, jobs and maybe even his feud with Christie while on his Town Meeting Tour which continues into April.
