Malloy Picks Transition Team
Following a weekend in which he was criticized by the NAACP,Governor-elect Dan Malloy has announced the names of people who will help shape his administration. WNPR's Jeff Cohen reports.
The Connecticut chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People issued a statement over the weekend saying Malloy's transition team wasn't diverse -- a claim rejected by Malloy's incoming chief of staff as both premature and wrong.
On Monday, Malloy announced his picks for his steering, personnel and policy committees. The team will help Malloy fill cabinet level and other state government positions before he takes office in January. The steering committee includes state politicians, union officials, and business people.
It also includes two people who hope to run the city of Hartford. One is attorney Shawn Wooden, who announced his campaign for mayor earlier this month. The other is current Mayor Pedro Segarra, who formally announced his run for mayor this weekend on WFSB.
In a press release, Malloy said his team reflects the state's diversity of opinion, experience, political party, and cultural background.
