The Nose: Voluptuous Ladies & Parenting The YouTube Generation
Speaking of Elizabeth Taylor and modern perceptions of American womanhood, Camille Paglia said this week "we're in a period now where everything has to be taut in mind and body."
Paglia's point was that Taylor, relaxed, raunchy and overflowing her slip, doesn't seem to exist in the world of modern American female archetypes, which lean toward the "skeletal, Pilates-honed, anorexic" look of, say, Gwyneth Paltrow. Yes. But on the other hand some people seemed to get excited this week when Kirstie Alley, 60 and hefty, pulled high scores on Dancing With the Stars.
Today on the Nose, we'll walk about all the ways women were judged and labelled in one week. Obama's advisors are Amazons. Michele Bachmann is crazy and ignorant. Rebecca Black, the 13 year old whose music video pulled 47 million clicks this week, is a hopeless nothing. Right?

I don't mean to fact check, but Fat Actress was as much a reality show as Curb Your Enthusiasm is, that is to say, not at all. It was a short-lived but hilarious sitcom with Alley's friends, like Mayim Bialik as guest stars.
Love your show!
