QPoll: Blumenthal and Foley Lead
Democrat Richard Blumenthal still leads Republican Linda McMahon in the U-S senate race, but the momentum in the race for governor has shifted towards Republican Tom Foley. WNPR’s Jeff Cohen has more on the latest Quinnipiac University poll.
Foley leads Democrat Dan Malloy by a three percent margin – a significant change from a week ago when Malloy lead the poll by five percent. And while poll director Doug Schwartz says that the race is too close to call, it’s clear that independent voters have been shifting towards Foley. They now support him over Malloy by a 55 to 33 percent margin.
“For a Republican to win, they really need to win substantially among independents. And now, for the first time, Foley has opened up a wide lead among independents.”
Meanwhile, Schwartz says that voters think less favorably of Malloy than they used to.
"They’re increasingly having a negative view of him. It’s the first time he’s gotten an overall mixed favorability rating, where about as many people have a negative opinion of him as have a positive opinion of him.”
Schwartz also released results of a poll for the U.S. Senate race between Blumenthal and McMahon. Blumenthal leads by nine points, and Schwartz says that’s a big lead for McMahon to close.
“It looks to be a case of too little too late, because a nine-point lead the day before the election with only three percent undecided is going to be tough for her to overcome.”
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
