Report Links Global Warming To Extreme Weather Patterns
Environment Connecticut released a report today that draws a link between extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, and global warming. WNPR’s Nancy Cohen reports.
The report found there’s been an increase in heavy storms in recent years with the greatest number in New England and the Midwest. Christopher Phelps of Environment Connecticut says this rough weather is a consequence of climate change
“Those are extreme weather events such as the extreme precipitation events that led to things such as the flooding that we saw here in Connecticut and other parts of New England in March of this year that resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars to damage to property in southeastern Connecticut and Rhode Island, for example.”
The report calls for making policy changes that Environment Connecticut says would reduce global warming such as enacting federal cap and trade legislation or increasing the efficiency of cars and trucks.
For WNPR, I’m Nancy Cohen.
