A Request For ‘Trash-y’ Secrets
The Council Will Target Hidden Dumps In Fall Clean-Up

The Connecticut River Watershed Council is gearing up for its annual fall clean up of the river with a new pitch to the public. They’re asking people for their ‘trashy’ secrets. WNPR’s Nancy Cohen reports.
Jacqueline Talbot, the Council’s steward for the Connecticut section of the river, says the group is asking people to call or submit on-line the location of sites along the river where trash has been illegally dumped.
“It may be a group of dumped tires, that you notice, something as odd as an abandoned pay telephone, which we found last year, or a thing as mundane as a few food wrappers and plastic bottles.”
The Watershed Council will target these trashy areas during its annual Source To Sea Clean Up in October. In the past 13 years the group has pulled up more than 600 pounds of trash including sewing machines, barbeque grills, even a pair of dentures. Talbot says besides helping to direct the clean up, the request for information may also help people, who notice the litter, to cultivate a sense of stewardship towards the Connecticut River.
