State Sues Haddam Company Over Pollution Study
Nearly 20 Homes Have Water Filters To Purify Water

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has taken legal action against a company in Tylerville for not meeting a deadline to investigate possible pollution on its property. WNPR’s Nancy Cohen reports.
The Sibley Company once operated a circuit board factory in Tylerville, a section of Haddam. It's one of several sites that the Department of Environmental Protection says could be the source of chemicals that have contaminated the ground water in the area. The D.E.P. provides nearly 20 homes in Tylerville with filters to purify their water. Robert Bell of the D.E.P. says the agency directed the Sibley Company to analyze its property by March of this year, but it didn’t meet the deadline.
"The Sibley Company was required to investigate releases at and from its property by March 2010. And then, under the applicable regulations to begin any clean up that is needed by March 2011."
Jonathan Sibley says his company cleaned up its property years ago. He says the company is running behind schedule but intends to finish the investigation by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the town of Haddam is applying for funding to connect Tylerville to the public water system in nearby Chester.
