Thousands To Hear 14th Dalai Lama Speak in Connecticut

Western Connecticut State University in Danbury will welcome 3500 visitors Thursday and Friday as the campus hosts a visit from his Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama.

The spiritual leader of Tibet and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize has spent much of his life travelling the world, speaking about values like compassion and decency.

The Dalai Lama will spend two days in Connecticut after Western Connecticut State University extended the invitation to speak here in partnership with the Tibetan Buddhist Center for Universal Peace in nearby Redding.

WCSU President, Dr. James Schmotter says planning began two years ago to get to this monumental week for the university

"There was a lot of interest among our faculty of the inter-displinary themes that the Dalai Lama teachings look at. Creativity, Compassion-those touch a whole variety of academic areas."

The Dalai Lama will speak about the Art of Compassion Thursday afternoon at WCSU's
O'Neill Center.  On Friday morning, he'll give a talk about the art of daily life.

Schmotter says visitors from around the country are coming to campus and all 7000 seats will be filled after tickets for the public sold out in one day.

But anyone can hear the Dalai Lama speak if they're near a computer. Both talks will be online live here

The Dalai Lama also made stops in Boston and Providence this week. After Connecticut, he heads to NYC and then India later this month.
