Voters Say It's The Economy
Some Are Sticking With the Democrats, Others 'Can't Stand Them'
Congressional races are being watched closely across the country for any shift in the balance of political power. Connecticut is no different. WNPR’s Nancy Cohen reports on what voters are saying in the 5th district House race between incumbent Chris Murphy and Republican challenger Sam Caligiuri.
68 year old Paul Eurso is an unemployed tool designer and a Vietnam veteran. Walking out of his polling place in Farmington he says he voted for Sam Caliguiri simply because he can’t stand Democrats.
“Bailing our big companies while little ones go on the wayside. I don’t see any improvement with the unemployment. I've been unemployed over a year. Can’t find a job.”
The economy was also key for Bev Tuller from Simsbury. The 59-year old desert chef says it’s been tough in the restaurant business. but she’s sticking with the Democrats,
“I thought Chris Murphy did a good job I wanted to be supportive of the Party and the President.”
Many of the voters say they’re sick of candidates bashing each other with negative advertisements, especially in the senate race. They said the Murphy Caligiuri race was more reasonable.
For WNPR, I’m Nancy Cohen.
