Where We Live: Addressing Racial Profiling in Hartford
New Changes would limit authorities’ abilities to engage in racial profiling

Technically speaking – we’re all protected under the fourth amendment from racial or ethnic profiling by authorities – from unlawful searches or seizures – and from invasive government surveillance.
But, in practice…this isn’t always the case.
Civil rights lawyer Shahid Buttar says the Obama administration has largely continued the practices of the Bush White House when it comes to providing protections – and the way to solve the problem is found at the local level.
Buttar, Director of the Bill of Rights Defense Committee was in Hartford this week to speak on behalf of an article in the Hartford municipal code that would limit authorities’ abilities to collect information and engage in racial profiling.

First of all 90% of crime is not committed by any one color car or person. I know of many law biding citizens who are pulled over just because of the color of their skin and then, treated badly too boot when the police find out they had/couldn't get anything on them. Soem towns are worse than others. Racism and prejudice is very much alive....more hidden up north. At least down south you know clearly where you are wanted.........where you're not and most folks just mind their business in their own space in peace. It's still sad but at least honest.
