Where We Live: Donovan And Williams On New Leadership
The two state leaders get ready for a new Democratic Governor
The two men who were formerly the most powerful Democrats in state government, get ready for a new Democratic Governor.
Senate President Don Williams and Speaker of the House Chris Donovan have enjoyed big Democratic majorities in the state legislature, but they’ve never started a new session with a Democratic Governor. Now, they get their chance.
When Dan Malloy takes office on January 5th, he brings with him a new power for Democrats in the state, long frustrated by locking horns with Republican Governors John Rowland and Jodi Rell.
But Malloy is sending out signals that his party may have to “delay aspirations” as they try and dig out of a $3.5 billion budget hole.
Today, where we live, Don Williams and Chris Donovan join us to talk about their vision for the upcoming legislative session, and for the state.

Discussion today Williams/Donovan.
It really makes me wonder how smart these two are. They can not even do simple math which my 3rd grade Grandson can do better. One of them said $600,000 per year works out to $20,000 per week. Real answer is about $12,000. Another one indicated they could save 15% or $2.0 billion with new energy bill. The total sales of CL&P and United Illuninating is only about $4.5 billion which at 15% would be about $600 million or less than one third of what they said. Then they said we recently underfunded the pension plan due to tough times. We have underfunded this plan for the past 20 years. I never realized we were in tough times for the past 20 years. Then when I pointed out that the so called workers concessions of $1.0 billion in 2009 with Rell was actually only $200 million they did not answer my question. The bottom line of all of this they do not have a clue to how they are going to solve the budget. They blame everything on the Republican governors. The fact is the Republicans should take some of the blame ,probably about 30/40% but the Demoocrats should take 60/70% of the blame.
