Where We Live: Fantasy Land

Jake Halpern and Peter Kujawinksi first conceived of the plot for the fantasy series Dormia, while holed up in a hut in Egypt escaping a sudden sandstorm.

Kujawinksi is an American diplomat.  Halpern's a New Haven-based journalist.

They both make their living traveling to the far reaches of the earth - Kujawinkski to mitigate global disasters and Halpern to cover obscure cultural events.

Their "day job" exploits, though harrowing, have provided the perfect fodder for their fantasy series that features a sleep-walking twelve-year-old named Alfonso who has remarkable powers, and takes amazing adventures.but only while asleep.

Today, we'll talk about the collaboration that resulted in a fantasy world meant to rival that of Harry Potter.

And with Christmas just a few days away, we'll take a look at the best know holiday fantasy character, um...we mean, the completely real-life Santa Claus.

We'll talk with the Dean of Santa Clauses from the longest continuously running Santa Claus School in the world.

Great piece and fascinating

Great piece and fascinating concept of team writing. Interesting dynamics behind the writing of these books.

I read Dormia and loved it. I just got a copy of World's End and am quite excited about it. Love the story about the kids doing the Dormia National Anthem for you guys.

Please don't make me wait more than a year for book #3! :)
