Where We Live: GLBT Health Care
There are an estimated 9 million gay, lesbian, and transgender people in the US.
And statistics are not easy to find - as this population has not been accurately counted in the large national population based-surveys, including the census.
But one thing researchers and advocates do know is that our health care system does a poor job reaching out to serve their very specific needs.
For instance, The National Transgender Discrimination Survey found that half the transgender population were actually teaching their clinician about transgender health care. And 19% were refused health care outright.
Today, Where We Live, we’ll talk about GLBT health care and we'll look at what support exists in Connecticut for those beginning the gender transition.

Thank you WNPR! Tony and TransPac has been a lifesaver for me too. As a parent who has no other familial support for my gender variant child, I find comfort, support, understanding and love all while learning from other families how I can best support my child. Unconditional love.
