Where We Live: Gone Fly Fishin'

Connecticut attracts people from all over the country for one of its natural resources: the Farmington River.

The reason people come to this river is for fly fishing.

Every day, you see them: The men and increasingly, the women, who stand - silently - in the middle of the river in their waders and vests, constantly casting in hopes of the perfect catch.

But what makes the Farmington River so ideal for anglers?

Today, we go fly fishing. We’ll learn what draws people to this quiet sport. We’ll be joined by two women who call themselves the a “2 Fly Girls.” During the week they work as a graphic designer and makeup artist in New York City but they try to get out and fish whenever possible...frequently in the Farmington River.

We’ll also talk with the director of inland fisheries here in the state about government regulation of fishing and the impact of Irene.

Are you one of those anglers standing in the middle of the Farmington?
