Where We Live: Is Hartford Turning The Page?

Today, Former Mayor Eddie Perez is sentenced on corruption charges.   Is Hartford ready to turn the page?

The conviction of the mayor is seen by some observers as a culmination of bad events for the capitol city.  It still has problems with poverty, crime and education – and a self-image that holds it back from being successful.

A new mayor, Pedro Segarra, has brought a new attitude to city hall, but there are signs that many of the same political problems remain – witness a new city council president stumbling into a religious controversy – only a few weeks on the job.

And recent primary elections showed that the electorate is apathetic – at best – about change.

Today, where we live, we’ll hear from WNPR’s Jeff Cohen about the mayor’s trial – and we’ll talk with some civic leaders about what’s next for Hartford and the region.
