Where We Live: Live at Real Art Ways 35th Anniversary!
Celebrating 35 years of Creative Arts Presenting in Hartford
Real Art Ways in Hartford started 35 years ago as a scrappy, do-it-yourself, alternative arts space. It’s still all of those things, but it’s also a growing force in Connecticut’s arts scene.
Back in 1975, the founding members created a space to live and work and present art – but they didn’t stay there long. The arts space shuffled from one location to another, and by the late 80’s was on the edge of extinction, when it moved into an old typewriter factory in the city’s Parkville Neighborhood – right off the highway, right next to the train tracks, and right in the middle of a diverse and thriving, multi-ethnic neighborhood.
This weekend, Real Art Ways holds a 35th anniversary celebration, with public events and art gallery openings. And today we'll help them celebrate on their own turf in a special live, on-site Where We Live.
We’ll look back at the history of this unique institution, and find out what it can tell us about the future of interactive arts programming.
