Where We Live: No Whalers, No Patriots? No Problem

There’s no sports market in the United States quite like Connecticut.

Hartford hockey fans have been longing for the NHL to return to Connecticut ever since the Whalers left in 1997. Two years later, the New England Patriots rejected a deal to move that team to Hartford. More than a decade later, Connecticut still isn’t represented by any of the four major sports leagues.

But Connecticut does have the WNBA, the UConn Huskies, minor league hockey, and three minor league baseball teams. We’re also home to two of the largest sports broadcasting networks in the world: ESPN and NBC Sports.

Today, we’ll look at the impact of sports on Connecticut. Howard Baldwin has a plan to get the NHL back to Hartford - he joins us in-studio. We’ll also talk to ESPN sportscaster Linda Cohn, who has been with the network since 1992.
