Karachi, Pakistan has grown from a relatively small seaport city into a sprawling metropolis of at least 13 million people in just a few decades. It's what NPR host and reporter Steve Inskeep calls an "Instant City." He observes the changes in Karachi through the lense of one especially violent day in 2009.
