Where We Vote: Tom Foley

Tom Foley and Dan Malloy held their final TV debate last night – and the topic once again turned to taxes and fixing the state budget hole.

Foley, the Republican candidate, has said that he plans to close the largest budget deficit in state history – some 3.3 billion dollars – without tax hikes.  Malloy and reporters have been asking for specifics on what he’d cut, and how he’d come up with this money, and he’s said he “doesn’t need to provide a list of those savings.”

He’s counting on an economic turnaround to boost tax revenues – and a continued influx of money from Washington.

Today on Where We Live we continue our where we vote series with Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley.

TOM FOLEY'S ARRESTS and other trust issues

I agree with the tenor of the comments here, that Mr. Foley apparently has a darker agenda that he has not fully revealed. If he gets elected, we will find it all out, of course, but will that be too late to stop the blood-letting?

Frankly, I still have more personal issues that I would love to hear better aired by Mr. Foley. It has to do with those 2 arrests and the resulting security clearance mess that occurred. I'd like to know if he ever intended to reveal those dark matters to the voters, ever?

Tom Foley, why did you not reveal your TWO ARRESTS and your SECURITY CLEARANCE problems before running for Governor? Why did you keep it HIDDEN until it was found out by an investigative reporter? Are these signs of deeper character issues?

Connecticut needs a Governor without a rap sheet.

Governorship most certainly

Governorship most certainly IS a word, Johm. People without a vocabulary ought to spend two seconds on google before they type.

Here, I just did it for you:

I'm pretty sure that...

..."Governorship" is not a word.

I almost feel bad for hitting him on the 100,000 jobs thing, but if you're going to "do the math" and throw around numbers, be prepared to show your work.

He's talking out his butt, which became very clear by the end of this episode.

If only I had faith in Malloy.....

Tom Foley's Dishonesty About His Own Intentions

Gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley showed his true colors on this morning's Where We Live. When asked directly by a state employee who called in if the rumors were correct that he'd plan to cut pensions and break the contract with public service worker unions if he elected Governor, he said, "it's a rumor."

Just two weeks ago he told the New Haven Register, "declaring a fiscal emergency allows a governor to no longer be bound by the union contracts."

So what does Mr. Foley actually mean?

And how can the people of Connecticut -- not just those you'd hope as governor to lead as their de facto boss -- trust you him if he back peddles on something as basic as his intent?

The media, SEBAC, and Mr. Foley's opponent have challenged him on this issue, and until now his statements showed a clear intent -- that he would find a way to abrogate agreements with retired and active workers.

Now Mr. Foley has changed his tune and lied to a caller on WWL by saying that a contract is a contract.

How do we know he means what he says this time?
