And it’s back in the news again – German health officials say more than 1500 people have been sickened by a new e. coli strain in Europe – and 18 are confirmed dead. Beyond the death toll, the economic effects of the outbreak are spreading throughout Europe – In Spain, farmers say they are losing 288 million dollars per week – and lost sales could result in thousands of lost jobs.
Today we’ll ask the question: How safe is the food we eat every day?

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro joins us to talk about what budget cuts to the FDA might mean to historic food safety legislation recently passed by congress - the first major change to the nations food-safety laws since 1938.
