Mikhail Baryshnikov On The Arts In Connecticut And Beyond
He is performing in "Man In A Case" at the Hartford Stage until March 24th.
In the 1930s, Hartford was like a train depot for insanely important visiting artists. Salvador Dali screened "Un Chien Andalou" for Hartfordites, and then did a Q&A. Hartford hosted the first major exhibition of Picasso. And Hartford sponsored the immigration to America of George Balanchine, with the idea that his School of American Ballet would be here. We then blew that opportunity. It's a long story.
The good news is that Mikhail Baryshnikov is here in Hartford, leading another world premier.
