Hartford Gets Folksy This Weekend

Kate Callahan is one of our favorite local folk artists. Now she’s a music festival organizer as well.

This weekend, the Hartfolk Festival is taking place at the University of Saint Joseph. Musicians from throughout the area will take the stage and show us what modern folk music sounds and looks like.

Performers include past Where We Live guests like Kate Callahan and String Theorie.

But today, we’ll preview the festival with three artists we haven’t heard from yet.

Zoë Sundra currently lives in Brooklyn but grew up in Farmington. She’s returning to her home state to play her Ani DeFranco-inspired folk rock.

We’ll also be joined by Saturday’s headliners The Sea The Sea --- a duo that includes state troubadour Chuck Costa.

And we’ll talk to someone who doesn’t quite fit the traditional folk mold. André Balazs plays bluesy, folk, rock music that’s hard to define but he’s excited to be invited into the folk community this weekend.
