Connecticut Forest and Park Association is offering 162 hikes and other outdoor activities this weekend, as part of “National Trails Day”. WNPR’s Nancy Cohen.
For the 18th year in a row, Connecticut Forest and Park is organizing more outdoor activities on Trails Day than are offered in any other state. And they’re not just for backpack-carrying hikers. There are fitness walks, nature walks, paddling trips and biking events. Eric Hammerling of CFPA says the point is to get people outside.
“We just believe getting more people outside and exposing them to the great trails we have in this state will get them to value them and want to protect them and hopefully use them.”
In addition to the traditional guided hikes there will also be workshops on trail maintenance.
